Laxmi Steels, located in Sunwal-7, Nawalparasi, has made a significant commitment to sustainable energy by installing a 924 kWp solar power system. This initiative marks a remarkable shift towards reducing dependence on grid and diesel by minimizing carbon emissions and supporting the company’s vision of environmental responsibility.
Before adopting solar energy, Laxmi Steels relied heavily on the NEA grid and three diesel generators (DG) to power its operations. This dependency led to several challenges, including power outages, voltage fluctuations, and high energy costs. Recognizing the need for a more reliable and eco-friendly solution, Laxmi Steels embarked on its solar journey by installing a solar system on its rooftop.
The installation of this solar project took only 4 months to complete and it is already making a difference. Laxmi Steels expects a significant reduction in diesel consumption, saving around 540 kilolitres over the next 25 years. Along with lowering diesel use, the solar installation will also make a positive impact on the environment by cutting approximately 2,730 tonnes of carbon emissions over the same period. The financial benefits are equally impressive, as Laxmi Steels is projected to save around 15% on energy costs in the long run. By choosing solar, the company is not only making an environmentally responsible decision but also a financially sound one. Switching to solar has proven to be a practical and sustainable choice for the company, demonstrating that going green can also mean saving money.
Laxmi Steels has a high market demand, so shutting down the factory during installation was not possible. Project Manager, Jiban Twayana, explained, “The team worked on the roof to install the solar system while the steel production continued below, facing the intense heat and constant noise.” Pulling heavy AC cables was risky, with the chance of wires or even workers falling. Despite these challenges, the team completed the work safely and with full dedication.
