Hama Steel is a steel manufacturing company located in the industrial heartland of Birgunj which has been serving Nepal for over 25 years with premium quality steel products. Hama Steel is committed to delivering the highest quality steel products to meet the diverse needs of its customers, contributing to the construction of a stronger and more sustainable future for Nepal.
Hama Steel has faced several significant energy challenges over the years, primarily revolving around frequent power cuts at an average of 3 hours per day which led them to be dependent upon huge diesel generators, significantly contributing to environmental pollution and increasing the company’s carbon footprint. This reliance on diesel not only escalated operational costs but also conflicted with growing demands for greener, more sustainable practices within the industry. The combination of these factors has underscored the need for Hama Steel to seek more sustainable and reliable energy solutions to maintain operational efficiency and environmental responsibility.

With this need, Hama Steel partnered with Gham Power for a transformative journey towards sustainability and operational efficiency. Through this partnership, Gham Power installed a 633.6 kW solar-powered system on the rooftops of Hama Steel within a span of three months, providing a reliable and eco-friendly solution to the company’s energy needs. This system was installed by our team at the peak of summer in Nepal. Birgunj, being one of the hottest places in Nepal, was experiencing high temperatures of 42 to 43 degrees Celsius during the installation period. We ensured that the health of the workers was our priority and included rest days in between. Facing the challenge of scorching heat head-on, our team successfully implemented the solar system atop Hama Steel’s rooftops.
By harnessing solar energy in previously unused rooftop space, Hama Steel is now able to slash its operational costs and carbon footprints, curbing carbon emissions by about 2,302+ tonnes across 30 years and saving 60% electricity bills across 30 years. This initiative underscores Hama Steel’s commitment to sustainability, forging a path toward a greener future and serving as an example for other industries in Nepal.
