Mangalam Pipes, located in Siddharthanagar, Rupandehi, has made a remarkable shift towards clean energy with the installation of a 505.62 kWp solar power system. This clean transition is not only reducing their energy costs but also supporting a greener future by setting a strong example for industries across Nepal.

The Shift to Solar
Before going solar, Mangalam Pipes heavily relied on electricity from the Nepal Electricity Authority (NEA), supported by two diesel generators (600 kVA and 320 kVA) for emergencies. A 1600 kVA transformer was used to handle high power demands, but the industry still faced major issues.
Frequent power cuts, unstable voltage, and high electricity costs made daily operations challenging. It was clear that a more reliable and affordable energy solution was needed and solar became the answer.
Installation Journey
The solar installation at Mangalam Pipes faced time constraints due to the factory’s continuous operations, making even a short shutdown challenging. Despite these hurdles, the team adapted efficiently and completed the installation within 3 months without interrupting daily activities.
Impact of Solar Power
The installed solar system is now displacing 34% of the industry’s energy demand that NEA previously fulfilled. This has led to an impressive 28% reduction in energy costs per year, helping the business reinvest the savings in core operations and growth.
From an environmental point of view, the numbers are even more promising:
- Over 183 kilolitres of diesel will be displaced throughout 25 years.
- Over 1,096 tonnes of carbon emissions will be curbed throughout 25 years.
These figures not only highlight the cost efficiency of solar power but also demonstrate a significant contribution toward reducing the industry’s carbon footprint.
Leading the Way
This project is evidence of how renewable energy can empower industries to rise above traditional energy challenges. From battling power outages to reducing long-term expenses, the shift to solar energy has brought both resilience and responsibility to the forefront.
As more industries in Nepal look for sustainable solutions, this installation in Mangalam Pipes stands as a shining example of what’s possible when innovation meets intention.
